Movie Opener Final Draft

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhpI5PbDuXQ For our final draft, we added some clarification during the bank robbery saying "24 hours earlier" to indicate the full circle effect of the plane at the beginning and end of the movie opener. Although we were unable to change the direction of the first clip from horizontally to vertically, it is not that big of a deal because the viewer can still see that someone is on a plane. Also, there was some confusion at the end when my identity changed to Saoirse's, but we clarified that too by adding a short description saying "Kelsey must change her identity in order to flee the country and escape from the robbery...". Overall I think these changes helped to make our movie opener much more understandable and enjoyable to those watching it.

Peer Reviews

What people liked about my movie opener: "I liked that it was suspenseful and interesting to watch. I like that the story eventually came together. Originally, I was confused about why there was a video of the plane, but the ending where the character went off walking toward a plane connected everything together." "I liked the opening airplane takeoff. It seemed like a valid video to insert the names of actors." "I loved the very last transition, where the camera zoomed into Kelsey holding Saoirse's license, then when it zoomed out Saoirse was there. It was smooth, unique, and well done." "I like how there was a mix of diegetic and non diegetic sound. I like how they mimicked actual film openings by stating "SSKC Prod" at the beginning and some opening credits with their names. I like how they attempted a plot line. I liked the plane landing. I liked the variety of shots and editing techniques seen. " "I really liked how t...

Editing-week 2

Image
When I continued editing, I thought it was best to add a transition of "Dip to Black" in between the scenes showing the main character change her identity into a new person. The first clip starts off as seen in the Source box and zooms in on the ID, while the clip in the Program box starts already zoomed in on the ID and zooms out from there to show the other girl. The change in clothes also helps to show that the main character's identification is truly changed.

Editing- week 1

Image
I started editing by adding one clip at a time and making sure that the timing and transitions made sense. Sometimes when filming, too much information can be left out, leaving the viewer confused, so I wanted to make sure that the transitions from one scene to the next were smooth. I have not added any titles, effects, specific transitions, or other audio yet, because that's what my other group members are supposed to do, as one other group member and I filmed. A problem I faced was that I was trying to delete one of the clips in the project box, because it had been duplicated, but I ended up deleting the whole video I had made so far. Luckily, I wasn't too far along in the editing process and was able to simply arrange the videos back together.

Filming- week 2

Image
The next scene we shot was at a makeshift bank. We realised it would probably be a bad idea if we pretended to actually rob a bank, so we decided to make a bank of our own, as indicated by the white table with the label "BANK" on it. Because we were missing a few group members, we fortunately found another friend who helped us film, playing the role of the bank teller. We gave her a nice blouse and my glasses to make her look more professional. This scene was probably the most fun to film, as it really demonstrated the genre of action/adventure.

Filming- week 1

Image
The first scene we began filming was where one of the bank robbers came home to give her sick and dying mother medicine and some money. This was one of the easier scenes to film because we just did it in one of our group member's house with her sister. I thought the costume was very funny, creative, and played a large role in carrying out the scene. Because we don't have a specific script, we had to come up with what the dialogue and body language was going to be between the mother and daughter.

Film Preparation

Actors: Saoirse, Sarah, Carson and I Costumes: all black outfits during bank robbery, possibly with ski masks. After that, it doesn't matter as much, probably just regular clothes that any teenager wears Props: fake guns (if allowed), like water guns; monopoly money to throw out of car window; car, maybe a good looking car like Stuy's Audi Locations: Bank, like Saoirse's dad's bank; someone's house for when talking to mom; airport to film character leaving (film them walking towards security, then switch to plane flying away) Dates/Times: During the day, starting next week 2/3/20 Scripts: We don't have a script as of now, and probably won't, as most of it is just action and not dialogue. For the parts when we do talk, the actors/actresses will just talk off the top of their heads Film Equipment: Videos will most likely be filmed on phones, but we will try to stabilise the camera as much as possible to prevent it from wobbling

Storyboard

Image
Our storyboard is for the action/adventure genre. Through brainstorming with all of the group members (Sarah Nemeth, Saoirse Bowe, and Carson Chambers), we came up with the idea of a bank robbery. The first part shows people driving to the bank. Then three of the people in the bank, with one other person being a getaway driver, telling the bank tellers to give up the money. The third part shows the people leaving the bank, with money flying out of the window to indicate that the money was stolen. There will then be a transition demonstrating symbolism between the money bag and a backpack that now has the money in it. Next, we will show one of the bank robbers with their sick, dying mother. Here, it can be inferred that the money stolen was for medicine for the mother, which can be illustrated through a voice-over. Finally, as more of an adventure aspect, we will show the main character with a new ID, getting on a plane (or other mode of transportation) to indicate that he/she is leav...

Brainstorming

Rise- film opening The first few shots show the perspective well and clearly demonstrate what the actor is doing. I found it very cool and interesting how the music volume increased once the actor put on his headphones. This makes it seem that he is listening to this exact song that the viewers are also hearing. I also really liked the variety of clips to show the actor getting ready to what the viewer supposes is playing soccer, while also going along to the beat of the music too. The over-the-shoulder shot showed that the new actor/character is watching the first actor shown. Offline I liked how it started off by showing instagram, because many people in high school know what it is and how it works, so viewers are eager to see how this social media app is used. I was a little creeped out once it showed the person looking up someones location on the app, and I was even more concerned when the next clip showed a girl in a cage. By switching between scenes of the girl in the cage an...

Why I like action/adventure movies

I chose the action/adventure genre because I enjoy the thrill and suspense of action/adventure films. In these types of films, the characters often go on adventures and explore. They typically come across antagonists and are forced to fight them, resulting in action as well. For example, one of my favorite movies, Jumanji (2017) exemplifies this. In the movie the four main characters go through the in-real-life video game of Jumanji. They are made to explore the area, solve riddles, and fight animals and men who are attacking them. While Jumanji is more of an adventure film, as the characters must find a new place on the map in order to advance to the next level, there is still a good amount of action present as well. The opening of Jumanji shows a backstory to how the game was found, showing the date “1996” at the bottom of the opening scene. It shows a calm beach with the sunshine peeking out of the tops of the trees and the waves rolling onto the beach. There are two runners that c...
