5 master edits... with sound!

1. Music: I used music in my first clip of the first edit, contrast. I played the song Thunderstruck behind the video of me running a race in track. By adding the music it really helped the viewers to understand the intensity of the race and how much adrenaline I had while running. This is also an example of non-diegetic music because no one in the actual video could hear it, but those watching the edited clip can.

2. Synchronous sound: For my second clip in contrast I tried to convey that I was sleeping. I was laying in my bed with my blanket surrounding me and a pillow on my face. To show that I was sleeping I added the sound of a sleeping baby breathing. This correlated to the fact that I was also sleeping, as that's what the viewer saw and heard.

3. Direct sound: Direct sound is the sound from the video itself, with no music or extra sound added. This is also an example of diegetic sound because the people in the video hear what the viewers hear too. I used this type of sound for my parallelism clips. It showed my cheerleading team practicing a pep-rally dance in the gym slowly, to the counts of our coach. The next clip was a video from a pep-rally where we performed one of our dances. It was very fast paced and showed what the final product was from all the time spent practicing dances at practice.

4. Post Synchronisation dubbing: This type of sound is also non-diegetic sound, as only the viewers can hear it, not the audience from the video. I used it in the edit of symbolism where I compared water in my pool to water from a water fountain. The only sound in these videos was the sound of water, and I thought a nice, calming music would have done better. So, I added music to the video, which is an example of post synchronisation dubbing.

5. Sound bridge: I also used a sound bridge in my example of symbolism. Because the two clips were so similar, as they shared symbols of water, I decided it would be best to connect the sound from one clip to the next. The pleasant music helped to create a calm and relaxed emotion, as people usually are when they're in the pool or simply drinking water from a water fountain.

6. Voice over: For the last type of edit, LeitMotiff, I decided to do a simple voice over. This is where someone speaks over the video, where only the viewers can hear, not anyone in the video (non-diegetic sound). Because LeitMotiff can often be tricky to understand, I thought it would be better if I described what was going on in the scenes and why. In the first clip I was doing homework and figuring out how to work premier pro, and in the second was me representing my brain running in circles, as I was confused.

  1. I really liked our contrast shot because I did something really similar! I put a clip of me playing soccer with adrenaline rushing music and then a calm clip of me doing some homework. I like how your clip showed two different sides of you, the beast mode side, and the tired side. Great job!
